What is the Oasis of Peace?

We are a hospitality house for wounded, exhausted, traumatized, and burned out Christian global workers. We operate in partnership with Oasis Rest International, a ministry that offers hosted places of skilled, personalized care for ministry workers.

Most global workers experience stress that far exceeds healthy levels in the normal course of their ministry. Many also live through traumatic events. Without appropriate rhythms of rest and care, some workers leave the field and others end up struggling in their faith. The goal of the Oasis of Peace ministry is to provide an emotionally safe, beautiful, calm, quiet place where these workers can connect to the help they need and draw near to God.

We began our ministry in Montrose, Colorado, USA in the summer of 2017, hosting guests hostel-style in a former Christian school. In the summer of 2022, we decided (after much prayer, counsel, and research) to move the Oasis of Peace to Slovenia.

We are no longer receiving guests in our Colorado location. If you are in need of rest, check out opportunities at our Life Impact colleagues’ hospitality houses. Check back with us in early 2024 to see when we plan to launch our European location.

About the Logo

Our logo symbolizes what we hope to accomplish at the Oasis of Peace. We want to see global workers restored by the work of the Holy Spirit to a condition of thriving fruitfulness.

Sometimes a difficult season of work overseas can leave a cross-cultural worker dry and barren, like the left side of this tree. With rest, wise counsel, and time to seek God, we can be restored to life again, as portrayed by the mass of leaves on the right side of this tree.

This work is not accomplished by our own efforts, but by the work of the Holy Spirit.

About the Team

Sheri Dugan, Member Care Specialist

Sheri is a pastor’s daughter who received the Lord’s call to international ministry as a young teen. She has served with two international Christian organizations, working both locally and internationally for the past twenty-five years. Sheri has worked in a wide range of jobs (teacher, tutor, sound tech, linguistic researcher, administrative assistant, etc.) during her time in South America, Europe, Africa, and the US. She a host and member care specialist with the Oasis of Peace.

Years of poor self-care, too little margin, and an absence of good boundaries led to Sheri’s burnout and extended leave from the field. Thank the Lord for godly counselors, a wonderful home church, a supportive family, and a terrific partnership team that prayed and watched as the Lord led her through a restoration of spirit, soul, and body. It was out of this experience that the vision for the Oasis of Peace was birthed.

Britt Burbridge, Member Care Specialist

The daughter of an Air Force officer, Britt grew up as a “third culture kid.” She had lived in four states and two foreign countries by the time she was eight. After college, Britt joined the Air Force herself, serving as a transportation officer. Later, she spent time as a high school teacher, a technology administrator, and a corporate trainer until God called her to international ministry. After four years of service with a Bible translation organization, she teamed up with Sheri to help in this member care ministry. She now serves as a host and member care specialist with the Oasis of Peace.

Britt has compassion for exhausted cross-cultural workers as a result of having experienced burnout in former roles. She has also walked through seasons of major depression as a believer and has a heart to walk beside others who are walking through that particular valley.
